It may be the smaller side of the Twin Cities, but don’t count Saint Paul out! This historic town, that also doubles at Minnesota’s state capital, has some of the best breweries that you could ask for. Take a look at this list of our ratings for the 10 best Saint Paul Breweries.

Summit is a very popular beer brand across the Twin Cities and get’s its name from the famous “Summit Avenue” in Saint Paul. Their staple beer is the extra pale ale, which goes all the way back to the founding of Summit in 1986. Try not to let their large size scare you from checking out the taproom. You can even buy a tour of the facility while visiting!
8. Barrel Theory Beer Company

Gambit Brewing can also be found in the Lowertown neighborhood. It’s location in the basement of a historic building gives it an intimate and New York style vibe. Unlike many other breweries in the area, there is an extensive set of “seltzer cocktails” that will please any non-beer drinker in your group. Just be sure to check out the fun names they slap on those drinks!
6. Dual Citizen Brewing Company

Website: www.dcbc.com
Whether you are headed to a Gopher game at the University of Minnesota or to catch the Loons at Allianz Field, Dual Citizen Brewing Company is a perfect option for a quick visit. Located near the Midway neighborhood that marks the mid-point between Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Dual Citizen has a great beer list and is easily accessible for those riding the Metro Green Line.
5. Saint Paul Brewing
Address: 688 Minnehaha Ave E, St Paul, MN 55106
Website: www.stpaulbrewing.com
It’s hard to compete with Saint Paul Brewing. This brewery is located within the original Hamm’s Brewing factory and has relics of that era decorating its walls. This is also a great place for those looking for a brewery with a full kitchen and food menu. However, the best part in our opinion, is the cool patio that makes you feel like you are sitting in the ruins of industrial America.

4. Lake Monster Brewing Company
Address: 550 Vandalia St #160, St Paul, MN 55114
Website: www.lakemonsterbrewing.com
A play on the famous Scottish lake monster and the 10,000+ lakes of Minnesota, Lake Monster Brewing Company is a fun little spot for meeting up with friends. Hidden on a side street in Saint Paul and along the railroad tracks, you might have to look for the old antique water tower to find it. Still, once you are there, you feel transported to another world for a short time.
3. Waldmann Brewery
Address: 445 Smith Ave N, St Paul, MN 55102
Website: www.waldmannbrewery.com
This is probably one of the oldest brewery sites in the Twin Cities. The building itself was created as a brewery back in 1857 and today it specializes in both German style beer and food. When you arrive, you are shuffled through what feels like a historic home, complete with restaurant style seating and a perfect outdoor patio. This is certainly a can’t-miss brewery in the Twin Cities!
2. Urban Growler Brewing Company
Address: 2325 Endicott St, St Paul, MN 55114
Website: www.urbangrowlerbrewing.com
Here is another brewery that has just as extensive of a food menu as it does a drink menu. You simply can’t go wrong in picking this place for a lunch or dinner meetup with friends, especially on their large outdoor patio. Urban Growler also prides itself on being the first “woman-owned microbrewery” in the area.
1. BlackStack Brewery
Address: 755 Prior Ave N, St Paul, MN 55104
Website: www.blackstackbrewing.com
Many might be surprised to find BlackStack topping this list, but we have fallen in love with this Saint Paul hotspot. Located in a beautifully restored industrial building in Saint Paul, BlackStack’s name resembles the smokestack located right outside its door. Inside, you will find a large taproom that is complete with an abundance of plants and even living-room style seating areas. One of our favorite things about BlackStack, however, is their willingness to collaborate with other breweries across the country to create innovative and surprising new offerings.
